A language spoken across continents

Building communication skills through language and culture

Spanish is one of the most widely spoken by more than 500 million people in the world, connecting people across Europe, Latin America and beyond. Learning Spanish allows students to communicate across cultures while developing valuable linguistic and interpersonal skills.

The study of Spanish enhances listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities while providing insight into diverse cultures, traditions and perspectives. It also encourages adaptability, curiosity and global awareness. A Spanish certificate will prove extremely helpful in the highly competitive job market.

College Ste Marie is the only school in Mauritius that offers Spanish to compete for scholarships. Students are supported in developing confidence in the language while discovering the richness and diversity of Spanish speaking communities around the world. Spanish is relatively easy for Mauritian speakers to learn, particularly those who speak French, as the two languages share many similarities in vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation.
